Vintage Daisy and Dad

So, following my last post I had a good cry and chocolate for dinner, along with much prayer. Aaaahh… feeling better! And yes, we made it through the trip to UCLA (got lost twice) and ate salt and vinegar chips on the ride home. I’m seeing a comfort food pattern. Back to the green smoothies today!

Today I’m giving the scoop on our timeline as I’m often asked “what’s next?” As always, cancer treatment seems to be on it’s own timeline as we can never predict what the body will do and when. Good thing I’m Type B!

1. Daisy recovers from chemo while getting daily shots of a drug that stimulates growth of blood cells in the marrow.

2. When her lab results reflect that her cells are ripe for harvest we head back to UCLA for collection which lasts up to 5 days.

3. More recovery then CT scan to assess Daisy’s level of residual disease.

4. Pack up and head for Israel to give Daisy a new immune system and the ability to fight off cancerous cells through a type of stem cell transplant invented by a very innovative Israeli doctor.

So this means, God willing, that Daisy has completed her last chemo which is happy on so many levels: her hair can start to grow in 3-4 weeks! She can be around friends after she recovers! She can go out to a store or restaurant or a museum! She can swim! She can enjoy so many of the things we take for granted on a daily basis. We are forever changed by this experience of extreme restriction that has marked our lives for nearly 3 years. So go out and have some fun today, there’s so much to do! We’re right behind you…
